Acupuncture needles are hair thin and disposable. They generally create no bleeding upon insertion or withdrawal, and cause little or no pain. Once the proper stimulation of the needle is obtained, the patient may experience a heavy sensation, some slight cramping, tingling, or numbness around the needle. An electric sensation may also be felt traveling up or down the effected meridian or energy pathway. In addition to the needling, care may include a variety of non-needling therapies.
"Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine is one of the fasted growing forms of health care in the United States. This explosions is due to the recognition by consumers and regulators of the safety, effectiveness, and low cost of this form of health care."
